In the table entitled "Herbs and Their Uses", under the entry of "Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)", and in the column entitled "Actions and Uses", it states: "Acts as a decongestant and mild antiseptic"..."Good for colds, coughs, and other respiratory disorders. Inhaling vapor from a few drops of the oil helps to break up mucus".

Under the disorder" of "Common Cold", it states: "The common cold is an infection of the upper respiratory tract caused by a virus.".... "Eucalyptus oil is helpful for relieving congestion. Put 5 drops in a hot bath, or put 6 drops in 2 cups of boiling water and inhale the steam. It is best to remove the boiling water from the stove, then place a towel over your head and inhale deeply through your nose for three to five minutes (be careful not to get too close to the source of the hot steam - it can cause burns)."

Under the disorder of "Influenza", it states: 'Influenza, better known as "the flu", is a highly contagious viral infection of the upper respiratory tract.'..."Eucalyptus oil is beneficial for relieving congestion. Put 5 drops in a hot bath or 6 drops in a cup of boiling water, put a towel over your head, and inhale the vapors."

Under the disorder of "Pneumonia", it states: "Pneumonia is a serious infection of the lungs that can be caused by any number of different infectious agents, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and mycoplasma. The infection causes tiny air sacs in the lung area to become inflamed and filled with mucus and pus, inhibiting oxygen from reaching the blood."..."Pneumonia is now the fifth leading cause of death in the United States. No matter what the cause, pneumonia usually leaves the sufferer with weakness that persists for four to eight weeks after the acute phase of the infection has resolved."... Under the subtitle of "Considerations", it further states: "The use of antibiotics for minor infections such as colds may lead to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the upper airway, which can cause pneumonia."
